Jennifer Parks was born in Kansas, raised in Illinois, and lives in Indiana with her husband and four daughters. Jennifer, self-described as a “work in progress,” has been a nurse for 20 years specializing in Pediatrics and NICU. She sees nursing not only as a career but as a ministry. Her faith in Jesus and her family are the most important areas of her life. But a close runner-up is her love of baking! Teachable Moments: Principles for Biblical Womanhood is her first book.

You’re organizing a party. Which two authors, dead or alive, do you invite?

Earnest Hemingway and Danielle Steele

Who are your favorite writers? Are there any who aren’t as widely known as they should be, whom you’d recommend in particular?

What do you read when you’re working on a book? And what kind of reading do you avoid while writing? 

I couldn’t read anything else except the Bible while I wrote. It would influence me too much. I couldn’t really watch any videos or movies either. I wanted to make sure I clearly heard God’s words instead of others.

What moves you most in a work of literature? 

The supporting characters. I believe they tell the true story or they can totally change the course of a story.

What genres do you especially enjoy reading? 

Christian and Romance

What kind of reader were you as a child? 

I was the girl who saved up every penny to do some serious damage at the school book fair. Then I read all twenty books in 2 weeks time.

If you could meet any writer, dead or alive, who would it be? And what would you want to know? 

The Apostle Paul - he wrote the majority of the New Testament while under arrest! How was he able to have such joy despite his circumstances? How was he able to read a wide variety of groups with just a poetic letter? How did he remain true to the word of God despite opposition?

What was is like to be featured on the Netflix series Nailed It!? 

I was on season 3 episode 5 “Oui Cant Bake” and it was wonderful to doing something new. I love baking and it was a chance to show my “skills” (or lack thereof) while under pressure. I believe everyone should do the unexpected every now and again.
