Unveiling Truths:
The Literary Odyssey of Hilary Walker

The Uncompromising Narratives of Faith and Equine Passion

In the realm of literature, amidst the bustling worlds created by imaginative minds, there exists a unique intersection of faith, truth, and storytelling. Author Hilary Walker stands firmly within this intersection, wielding her pen as a beacon for those seeking narratives steeped in unwavering honesty and profound spiritual depth.

Born in the serene landscapes of Hertford, England, Walker's literary journey is akin to a tapestry woven with the threads of devout Catholicism, fervent love for horses, and an unyielding dedication to portraying the unvarnished veracity of life. Her writing, while adorned with the charm of fiction, resonates with the profound essence of truth—a truth that transcends mere words and seeps into the very core of her narratives.

Walker’s literary oeuvre is marked by her acclaimed 'Modern Catholic Trilogy,' a series born from the urgency to share unadulterated truths. These novels, delving into the clash between traditional Catholic teachings and their contemporary adaptations, stand as a testament to her mission—fulfilling her spiritual director's charge to unveil truth to a world often shrouded in ambiguity.

Her choice to explore the nexus of Catholicism and equine passion within her works is as intriguing as it is captivating. Yet, it's her unapologetic commitment to this genre, sparsely populated though it may be, that sets her apart. With a string of bestsellers adorning her literary crown, Walker's voice echoes loudly—a clarion call for more narratives rooted in faith.

In our exclusive interview with Walker, she candidly shares her literary inspirations, divulges her voracious appetite for truth, and unearths the raw emotions that fuel her storytelling. Her dedication to the craft, evident in the meticulous outlining process and immersive writing routine, resonates deeply with those yearning for authentic narratives in an age inundated with superficiality.

Walker's words speak not just to the devout but to all seekers of genuine narratives that tug at the strings of the soul. Through her works, she endeavors to not merely entertain but to enlighten, preparing her readers for a world-changing event she cryptically alludes to—a cosmic event poised on the horizon.

In ‘A Blazing Truth,’ the concluding masterpiece of her trilogy, Walker's prowess shines brightly. Applauded by readers for its unwavering portrayal of reality and celebrated for its bold stance against the veils of modern ideologies, this novel is a testament to her literary craftsmanship.

As we delve into the depths of Walker's literary landscape through this insightful interview, we're beckoned to witness the convergence of faith and fiction, truth and storytelling—a tapestry woven not just from imagination but from the fabric of unwavering conviction.

Join us as we embark on this literary odyssey, guided by an author whose narratives are not just stories but beacons of truth in a world often cloaked in shadows.

Hilary Walker was born in Hertford, England. She’s a rabid horse lover and owner, so her non-denominational Christian novels are heavily populated with equines.

But her spiritual director told her, “Your mission is to tell the truth; people need to hear the truth!” and so the plot for the first book of ‘A Modern Catholic Trilogy’ was born. Intended as a standalone, it was followed by two more novels, because readers kept asking what happened next to the characters. The trio of books highlight the clash between traditional Catholic teaching and its compromised modern equivalent. They also seek to show the richness of the true Catholic Faith.

Hilary is a multiple Amazon best selling author and lives in South Carolina with her husband and her English bulldog, Bertie Wooster’s Jeeves.

Are there any classic novels that you only recently read for the first time?

‘Lord of the World’ by Father Benson. Published in 1908, it is remarkably ahead of its time, although even my elderly spiritual director admits to finding the ending hard to understand, as do I.

Two months ago, I finally read George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm' and was upset that the horse dies in the end.

Do you read when you’re working on a book?

My go-to resource for outlining a story is ‘Take Off Your Pants’ by Libbie Hawker. A wonderfully concise book, it helps me create tight plots with no extraneous fluff, and has led to many best sellers.

I also read background material for each novel. But once I’ve prepared a detailed outline, I prefer to be ‘in the zone’ and not be influenced by the writing style of other authors.

What genres do you especially enjoy reading?

I love Catholic fiction but not many authors write it. To improve my knowledge of the Faith, I read non-fiction by notable figures in the traditional Catholic Church, books on writing, and, of course, equestrian books!

What books are you embarrassed not to have read yet?

George Orwell’s ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four,’ because I know I’ll find it depressing. I had enough trouble with ‘Animal Farm.’

What kind of reader were you as a child?

Voracious. I spent all my spare time sitting in the attic with pony stories and longing for the day when I could have a pony of my own. My father took the TV away, as he wasn’t happy about the quality of programmes, and thought I would buy the classics with the book money he gave me. But instead, I acquired an impressive library of horse fiction and non-fiction. And, yes, I did finally get my pony!!

Why did you choose your genre?

I also pen non-denominational Christian romances, but writing contemporary Catholic Fiction comes more naturally to me. However, the genre is very sparsely populated, especially by living authors. I think there’s a timidity among writers who are Catholic, but don’t want to turn off potential readers by being overtly so. Yet interestingly, my purely Catholic books are by far the most popular. Which suggests a need for more novels in this genre.

What do you hope to achieve through your writing?

My goal is to bring attention to the plight of truth in the world today. I hope to encourage people not to be led astray by Satan’s lies, but to hold fast to Jesus, Who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. In short, I want to save souls.

How long does it take you on average to write a novel?

Three to four months. Although my last romance, ‘Rachel’s Risk,’ was ¾ finished and left for three years before I picked it up again after writing the Modern Catholic Trilogy.

Do you write every day?

If I don’t write every day I get depressed. If I get to write for four hours or more in a row, I’m in heaven!

What are you working on now?

A rather ambitious novel combining Catholicism and horses. My aim, as always, is to entertain, but also to prepare the reader for a cosmic event foretold to come before the end of the world.
