Jimi Fritz's Literary World

Jimi Fritz, a diverse creator, shares literary insights:
hidden gems, newfound classics, dream author party,

beloved characters, childhood reading, artistic separation,
and personal storytelling preferences.

Jimi Fritz is a British/Canadian writer, musician, filmmaker, and bon vivant.

He has written two feature length screenplays, numerous articles and three books. His first book, Rave Culture, an insider’s overview chronicled the global rave phenomenon. In 2020 he published, Confessions of an Ethical Drug Dealer, a psychedelic travelogue and memoir, and a witty and enlightening treatise on the responsible use of psychedelics told through the lens of a fifty year journey buying, selling, and consuming psychedelic drugs.

Most recently, Fritz has completed a new novel entitled, The End of Everything about a character named Fritz who is plotting his own suicide in a mental asylum. It’s an ironic black comedy.

As a singer/songwriter, he has produced five albums and twenty-four music videos of his original songs. As a filmmaker he has produced and directed numerous shorts and documentaries.

Drawing from his multifaceted creative journey, Jimi Fritz now shares exclusive insights on his latest novel and his compelling artistic evolution in our interview.

What’s your favorite book no one else has heard of?

Hunger by Knut Hamsun. A masterpiece.

Are there any classic novels that you only recently read for the first time?

Huckleberry Finn.

You’re organizing a party. Which two authors, dead or alive, do you invite?

Kurt Vonnegut and Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

Who are your favorite writers? Are there any who aren’t as widely known as they should be, whom you’d recommend in particular?

Dostoyevsky, Camus, Proust, Kafka, Hesse, Vonnegut, Hemingway.

What moves you most in a work of literature?

Originality and authenticity. I’m more interested in the witting than the content.

Who is your favorite fictional hero or heroine?

Ignatius J. Reilly from The Confederacy of Dunces.

What kind of reader were you as a child?

I never read a book as a child

Have you ever changed your opinion of a book based on information about the author, or anything else?

No. I believe that art stands apart from the artist and can be judged separately.

Which writer would you want to write your life story?

I don’t find modern writers very interesting. I wrote my own life story.

Reviews for Confessions of an Ethical Drug Dealer.

This book has rather blown me away. It’s the best thing I’ve read in quite a while. Confessions is full of wonderful anecdotes and some truly eye-opening philosophy. I know that many people will love reading it.”

- Tatiana Wilde, Literary Consultant, UK.

Our editorial board can confidently state that your manuscript was found to be both powerful and entertaining. Your assured writing style is incredibly emotive and is sure to evoke a strong sense of empathy with readers.

- Board of Editors at Austin Macauley Publishers, New York.

“This book is Jimi’s homage to the psychedelic experience, a love letter to psychoactive drugs, and an entertaining account of how drugs fuelled his life long quest for rationality and a proper cup of tea. I thoroughly enjoyed the read, as a memoir and a manual for better living.”

- Greg Cummings, Author of ‘Gorillaland’ and ‘Pirates.

“Confessions,” is one of my favourite books. I compare it to Henry Miller’s Paris and George Orwell’s Down and Out. One day it will be studied like a Rosetta Stone to our times.

- Howie Siegel, Producer and Actor.

“Totally absorbing. Creative non-fiction at its best.”

- Trina Woods, Writer and Therapist.

“This book is a marvel. Fast paced, action packed, and a thoughtful exposition on the intrinsic human need for meaningful social connections.”

- Abby Pollen Worth, Marketing Specialist, MA.

Reviews for The End of Everything

"The End of Everything is thought provoking and original in tone, concept and content. When writing forces you to stop and think, the writer has done their job."

- Taylor Damron, Office of Sloan Harris, CAA, Creative Artists Agency.

"This book, The End of Everything, and Jimi Fritz deserves to be listed with the legends of literature. So much more than a story about a trapped soul in a broken system, it touches into the very essence of what it means to be human, with a palette of language rarely seen."

- Amazon.ca review

"A refreshing literary experience."

A great read discussing an important topic with comedy and wit.

“Would definitely recommend The End of Everything. I read this book twice and got more out of it the second time around. Jimi's insights about an important topic that is not discussed enough is fabulous - and he does it with comedy, style and wit. I've bought this book and his previous works for others in my life as I think they are important reads that question status quo and provide a different perspective that can challenge ones thinking and understanding.”

- Amazon review

The End of Everything is superb. I am beyond impressed with Jimi Fritz’s writing. It’s so encouraging to encounter excellence when now the default setting in so many fields is mediocrity.

- Dakota Hamilton and Lucky the dog.

“If you are weary of reading time-wasting genre story books about romance and history, check out The End of Everything by Jimi Fritz.”

- Fyodor Dostoyevsky
