Rafael Morewood was born into a blue collar family. His father a miner and his mother a shopkeeper his youth was happy and without strive.

From early on he had a dream of being a writer and actually put stories on paper off and on throughout his life. But it was only after five decades of life that he decided to publish his first novel.

He is a prolific writer in SciFi, Fantasy and Horror and incorporating his own views of life in the stories that he tells. Be ready for his griping adventures that capture your imagination.

What genres do you especially enjoy reading?

Science fiction, fantasy and horror. I have been interested in the more ‘out there’ possibilities of strange powers and unimagined futures. I explore the same things in my own books.

What’s your favorite book no one has ever heard of?

I don’t know if many people have heard of this one but Inherit the Stars by James Paul Hogan. It’s in essence an investigation with many twists and turns that keeps you reading till deep into the night. I can only hope to get at that level of writing.

What moves you most in Literature?

Engaging and relatable characters. You can have the greatest story In the history of mankind, if your characters aren’t believable it all comes crashing down.

What books and authors have impacted your writing career?

I guess all the classics have had an influence in one way or another but if I have to name names Dean R. Koontz and Stephen King would certainly come to mind. Their imaginative styles and amazing characters are an infinite inspiration for me.

What topics do you like to write about?

I use my experiences in life and the lessons I’ve have learned from them in the hope I can help people in their journey through life.

From this knowledge I write about struggles against inequality and discrimination in all its forms and racism in specific. All wrapped in a blanket of science fiction and fantasy of course.

What do you read when you’re working on a book? And what kind of reading do you avoid while writing?

This rather depends on the setting in the book I’m writing. If I’m working on a fantasy I will read and watch mainly fantasy based books and movies or series. Depending on the themes in the book I’m working on I also do research through the internet, books and documentary. I basically avoid anything that can distract me from the story I’m creating.

What kind of reader were you as a child?

A very prolific one. I seemed to have a lot more time to read in my youth. These days I’m more concentrated on my writing. From early on I concentrated on the more fantastical stories and even fringe science and the paranormal. I remember having books about mythology at a very early age and reading science fiction from earlyon too. I was an avid Star Trek fan on television and also remember reading Erich von Däniken’s ‘Chariots of the Gods’. It still influences the books and stories I write today.

What aspects or events from real life influence and inspire your books and stories?

This is a complex one. People from real life, including myself, can be an inspiration for a character, so beware if you want to get to know me (LOL). I usually take certain personality traits from different people and incorporate them into a character.

Apart from that I create religions based on existing ones, or use  governmental regimes as a foundation. I also try to keep the stories believable by building upon existing scientific principles to build up  the worlds. Of course sometimes I have to take a leap for dramatic purposes or exciting story lines.
